By: Mike Williams On: July 8, 2012 10:23 AM In the history of the NBA Playoffs, the Atlanta Hawks hold the record for most 3-pointers made in a single playoff game. Atlanta fans are lucky to see that record broken this year. The Hawks have taken to playing at The Alamo this weekend and they plan on taking out the San Antonio Spurs in the Second Round. The Hawks are in position to take home the NBA Championship for a second year running. The Hawks led this series before the Spurs put the team away behind the bench and the team has seen it more than enough to not be intimidated. The Hawks led by as many as 21 points after halftime. The game opened in a big way for the Spurs. The Spurs were able to cut back out to a 15-11 lead after one quarter. The Spurs defense was in complete lock down mode on the perimeter. Every play looked like they would end up in foul trouble for Tony Parker or LaMarcus Aldridge. The Spurs shot the ball well overall but they will need to put it away before they let the Hawks hang around with the lead. If one of those guards is still on the floor the Spurs have a much more difficult task than when their top players aren't on the court. It all comes to down to this. The Spurs can put the ball in the hoop and force a miss. It has made all the difference throughout the series. If San Antonio can stop any of the shooters on the perimeter they can cut off an inside look from the shooters on the opposite end and it will open a lane for their best player – Kawhi Leonard, to get to the rim for an easy lay up. The Hawks have shown the ability to make tough shots throughout the series. The Hawks' defense is in a similar state and with Tony Parker out, their defense will need to continue to be at its best. The Hawks are in a position to reach the second round and while nothing is guaranteed, the Hawks have the ability to go deep in the postseason. With their back against the wall they will need to make their last shot for the season. Advertisements
